The San Diego County Fair begins this Friday, June 8 here in Del Mar, just across the street from Winners Circle Resort.
Although the fair is a joyous event that includes rides, games, and all the fried food your heart desires it does cause some stress due to the traffic it creates. As a reminder to our hotel guests and timeshare owners, be aware that Via de la Valle and Jimmy Durante Blvd. will be extremely busy from now until July 4, 2012. Even Stevens Avenue in Solana Beach has warning signs to “Expect Delays” from June 8- July 4. Visitors from all over the southwestern United States come to enjoy the unique offerings at the famous Del Mar Fairgrounds, which promises to be “Out of this World” for 2012.
It’s always best to plan ahead if you’re trying to avoid the traffic from the fair. The alternative routes include exiting either Del Mar Heights (one exit south) or Loma Santa Fe Drive (one exit north) and coming back down on the 101.
IF you are heading to the fair, in order to beat the traffic, you have a few options, including alternate public transportation options outlined on the SD Fair’s website, here. There are also free off-site parking facilities that offer shuttles to the fairgrounds, listed here. These include Torrey Pines High School in La Jolla, MiraCosta College in Cardiff, and the Horsepark in Del Mar.
Further, if you’re near the fairgrounds, biking is a viable option as well.
Of course the best way to avoid traffic in and out of the fairgrounds would be to stay somewhere close, where walking is possible, like Winners Circle Resort. Your parking is free, and you can easily walk to the fairgrounds.
